Pleasant Park Jump Rope for Heart 2017

This high energy event is coming up on Thursday, May 18th outside on the school yards, with a rain date of Monday, May 22nd.

The whole school from Junior Kindergarten to Grade Six will be involved from 8:45-10:30 and everyone needs to be ready to be active outside.

The format will be a bit different this year.  From 8:45AM – 10:15AM:

The kindergartens (JK,SK) will be doing rotations at skipping stations like the last few years where they will do a variety of active activities using skipping ropes as coordinated by Mme. Mila. To make this event successful we will need parent volunteers to help us. Sign up will be with the teachers and all volunteer will meet in the gym at 8:30AM the day of the event. Remember you do not need to know how to skip to do this;)

The Primary students (Grades 1-3) will have a big joint skip off that is being run by Mr. Phil. This will be on the paved yard and will involve getting your heart rate going umping for 1hr – lets see what you can do!

The Junior students (Grades 4-6) will be participating in the Track and Field tryouts, for a spot on this year’s Track and Field team. The events will be on the school’s back fields with Mr. Sepulis.  Parent volunteers will be needed to help officiate and time at the events. Please contact Mr. Sepulis at sean.sepulis@ocdsb.ca if you are interested.

At around 10:15 – EVERYONE will end the event with some watermelon treats (prepared by parent council) and the kids will watch our annual teacher skip off to end our morning before recess!  Who will win this year?  Parents welcome to come to watch, this is usually great to see.

The goal for this event is to highlight the importance of getting and staying fit at every age.  Supporting kids’ health for more than 30 years, the Heart & Stroke Jump Rope for Heart encourages kids to get active by skipping rope while they collect pledges for heart disease and stroke research.  If you wish to help us support the mission of Heart and Stroke you can:

1) Helping your child register/fundraise by clicking here which gives you access to the Heart and Stroke fundraising site, where you can also hit the donate tab and select our school if you do not wish to register your child online but would like to donate to this worthy event and get a tax receipt.

2) Send your child with a few dollars on the day of the event (no tax receipts available) that we will donate to the schools fundraising page to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Last year we collected $1150 the day of the event;) This year we are aiming for $1500!!!

We look forward to everyone participating in this fun and HEART RATE RAISING event!
