Thank you for helping to make our book sale a success!

Message from David Vlasblom, 2019 book sale co-ordinator:

THANK YOU for making the 14th annual Pleasant Park used book sale and bake sale another great success!

We achieved our main goal to promote reading by giving our community access to thousands of high-quality books at very affordable prices. Watching kids discover new books has no price tag!

We can also be proud that we raised $1,361.32 from the sale of used books and $247.35 from the delicious treats made by our many volunteer bakers.

Together, the book sale and bake sale raised $1,608.67 for students at Pleasant Park Public School!

Additionally, we are very fortunate and thankful for the hard work of Margaret-Anne our librarian who once again voluntarily ran the Festival du livre sale in the library during our event. She sold around $800 of books, and a portion of these sales are returned to us to buy new French books for our library collection.

A big thank you to Diane Legace, who co-ordinated six very successful book sales from 2013 to 2018, and who was a core volunteer and an indispensable resource to us again this year.

Big thanks also to:

  • All the people that attended the event and bought books;
  • The many families that donated books at the school drop off – the best books always come from these private collections;
  • The drivers (Jessey and Jeremy) who helped me picked up the generous donations of books from Steve Maclean Public School;
  • Lisa for making the big signs for the sandwich board;
  • All the parents who sorted the books and set up the book sale – sorting all those books and setting them up on tables is a huge job, but all your help made it easy;
  • The Pleasant Park custodians for all they did to help us;
  • Principal Thibeault, Vice Principal Rassi and the office staff for all their support with organizing this event;
  • All the teachers who collected books for their classrooms;
  • Starbucks in the Trainyards for the donation of the coffee;
  • Our high school volunteers and parents who served as cashiers during the sale and worked fast after the sale to get the gym empty by 3:30pm and deliver the leftover books to Rockcliffe Public School.

This event requires many hands to make it happen and there is no way it could happen without the support of more than 30 volunteers!

We hoped you enjoyed this community school event!

Welcome back!

Our first meeting is September 25th at 6:45pm in the Library. We hope to see you then!

On behalf of Parent Council, Welcome! Hopefully the first 2 weeks of school have gone smoothly for your families. We want to remind everyone to be safe when walking, biking or driving to school. Please be aware of students crossing side streets and in the parking lot.

Simply being a parent or guardian of a child at Pleasant Park means you are already part of Parent Council. Congratulations!  You can choose to get involved a little or a lot, but either way, we hope you will come out and be part of the conversation.

Parent Council meetings run once a month. We keep things friendly, focused and fun. Attending the meetings is a great way to meet parents, school staff and hear of all the exciting things going on in the school. We have conference calling set up at each meeting for parents if you are unable to attend in person.

At our first meeting on September 25, we will hold elections for any contested and unfilled positions on Parent Council. You can find the self-nomination form here, and use this form to nominate somebody else. Please submit them to Principal Thibeault before September 23.

Roles on the Executive include: Chair/Co-Chairs, Treasurer, Secretary.  Their roles can be found here. Find out more about Parent Council on the Pleasant Park Parent Council website. Parent Council also has a very active private Facebook page. Please consider joining to keep up to date on the latest news and events.

Pizza, popcorn and alternative lunches are run by Parent Council and are one of our biggest fundraisers. The bulk of our efforts focus on fundraising and organizing events that enrich the school experience and school community, such as our Book sale, year end BBQ, Movie Nights, Math/Science nights and special speakers. We also contribute to school and classroom needs that cannot be budgeted by the school such as robotics supplies for the Robotics club, the school Play, Kindergarten special events, French and English reading books, sports equipment, field trip bussing and much more. If you have any questions at all, please send a quick note or drop into a meeting.

We hope to see you September 25!

We need volunteers to make our year-end BBQ a success!

Are you planning on joining us for the year-end BBQ on June 14? It’s less than two weeks away!

It’s a wonderful event to bring our community together and celebrate another successful year. But it takes a small army of volunteers to make it happen.

Can you spare even half an hour of your time? Are you a grill master? Want to help take tickets, hand out food and drinks, or even bake a cake for the cake auction?

The BBQ runs from 4-7 and we’ll need help with set up and clean up as well.

FINAL PARENT COUNCIL MEETING – MAY 15

Please join us for our last Parent Council meeting of the year tonight at 6:45pm in the School library.

If you are a Committee Chair, we would love you to come so we can say thank you for all the work you have done throughout the year.

A big thank you to all parents who have attended meetings and helped out at all of our events. It takes a village!

Tonight’s agenda can be found here, and the minutes from our last meeting can be found here.
